And for those of you looking to do a little extra reading on the objectively fascist think tank mentioned in these posts, The Claremont Institute, here's a 2023 article from The New Republic that should be quite enlightening and alarming:

web.archive.org/web/2024081516

"Extremism of the right-wing variety has always figured on the sidelines of American culture, and it has enjoyed a renaissance with the rise of social media. But Claremont represents something new in modern American politics: a group of people, not internet conspiracy freaks but credentialed and influential leaders, who are openly contemptuous of democracy. And they stand a reasonable chance of being seated at the highest levels of government—at the right hand of a President Trump or a President DeSantis, for example."

The New Republic · The Claremont Institute: The Anti-Democracy Think Tank It was once (mostly) traditionally conservative and (sort of) intellectually rigorous. Now it platforms white nationalists and promotes authoritarianism.

I've seen a ton of these everywhere. This stuff, and a lot of "kids should do trade school" messages. Maybe it's the algorithm because I have kids, but I'm seeing it even when I'm not on a personal account.

It makes me wonder if there's some psyop going to get parents on board with opting out of college and into education that includes less in the way of "liberal" arts?

Not to be conspiracy minded, but this feels think-tankish. Like all those creepy "I have five side hustles that made me a millionaire while earning additional passive income from my property investments at 25" type"money management" articles.

What do you think? Am I losing it? 🤣

Insider · College professor wants parents to stop forcing kids into collegeBy Rachel Garlinghouse

Yesterday Tim Harford included this idea in a column of you 'crazy' #economics questions, answered.

But the more I think of it, the more I think there is something here; I understand his economic analysis of the shortcomings, but I think regulatory #capitalism could shape markets to make this work better than he believes.

My #NewYear wish is that I'd really like to see IPPR or another #thinktank have a go at modelling the regulatory environment that could make this work....
