The biggest thing stopping the #mac from being a good source for #gaming is actually the difficulty it takes in developing games that can run on the mac and run well. #Apple likes to tote there capabilities, but what they don't say is that #developing for the mac takes twice as long as to develop the same for windows, not to mention that on an accessibility scale, it is not easy to use #XCode to directly code on the mac, trust me, I've tried and i found it way easier to use #VSCode to make even basic programs whereas for the mac, using XCode to do the exact same thing is like 10 times slower and harder to do for the same amount of work simply because of navigation alone with #VoiceOver.

#A11Y #VoiceOver #DisabilityWashing #Apple

Of course I do a "mc o's" for the blind" stream the day after st. patrick's. All that's missing is a pint of GUinness and something green.
Anyway in 20 minutes I'll be answering the question of how a #blind #screenReader user would get anything done on a mac, why they should, if they should, and all that fun stuff. Last non-hacking stream for a bit, switching back to ye olde hacky mcCrack in the next one. Curious? twitch.tv/IC_Null youtube.com/@blindlyCoding #selfPromo #smallStreamer #FOSS #programming #screenReaders #VoiceOver

TwitchIC_null - TwitchFully blind person hacking, coding and tinkering while using a screen reader. THM, HTB, accessibility, all the things.

#blind #mac #voiceOver users, I'm working on a #stream idea to essentially set up a mac from scratch for efficiency/productivity for a blind power user and am gathering tricks, tools and techniques to include in said stream. I know about the obvious like VOCR, Hammerspoon, launchers like raycast/alfred, specialized apps like Drafts/Logic/Vmware Fusion/BBEdit/VS Code, even more specialized stuff like RCMD, Vollama and Shortcat, maybe some Rogue Amoeba stuff. I will also mention VoiceOver features like hotspots, item chooser, fastSearch and activities. Is there anything major I am missing? @FreakyFwoof @pitermach

Good news for fellow fans of @overcastfm who use #VoiceOver. In the last few days I’ve noticed that those weird unlabelled dimmed buttons when swiping through a list of episodes seem to be gone, plus VoiceOver focus is landing and staying on the Play button in the menu when I double tap on an episode. Im still hoping for the actions rotor menu to be returned to its former glory though. This remains my favourite podcast app.

My apologies if this is common knowledge among screen reader users, but I’ve just learned something new. Often, when scrolling social media, my Voiceover voice would change to a non-English speaking voice and read a post in another accent. It was so pronounced that I could not understand the post even though swiping through one word at a time did allow me to read the words which were clearly in English. But I’ve had French, German, Russian, Arabic & Oriental accents cropping up for no obvious reason.
I thought this might be something to do with Language Detection but it’s not. The way to fix it is quite bizarre.
I use Fiona as my Primary voice. But someone suggested I revert to some other voice as the primary one, then add Fiona as a Rotor Voice. So I put good old Daniel back as my primary voice, then added Fiona to the Rotor. After selecting Fiona from the rotor, I went back and checked one of the posts I had been unable to read and this time it worked perfectly.
Quite why a Rotor voice reads a post in English but the Primary voice doesn’t is beyond me, but if anyone else is having this problem, this is how to fix it.
#Accessibility #Voiceover

Having issues with #accessibility on #HamRadioPrep for #ios and the developers don't care. I'm using the #VoiceOver #ScreenReader and the app reads two choices for each answer as if they are shuffling the choices to prevent memorization of the letters. Example: A D all of these choices are correct. Also it doesn't tell me if the answer is correct when I tap on it. I work around this by utilizing the retake missed questions feature

Hey there, any #VoiceOver peeps know how to configure a #UniversalAudio Solo/Arrow interface to record my #VO in a #Logic session with a client directing me on a video call? I’ve tried all the videos and articles about routing and virtual channels in #Console but in a recent Meets call, Meets just hijacked my audio so it was really quiet in Logic. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. If you could explain it like I’m a baby that would be awesome. Don’t wanna use Loopback.

First, they shut down the Basic HTML site, forcing many of us to switch to clients such as Thunderbird. Now, they're using qr codes which are not only inaccessible to the blind but also to those who don't use smartphones! This is ridiculous! Yes, they do still have the option to click whether it's you trying to sign in or not (which still requires a smartphone and a carrier, which they claim to be concerned about), but how long before they remove that, too?

For 5 years now I've been learning about web accessibility and reviewing websites. But I'm not a native screen reader user, and my mobile app experience is lacking.

This month I learned about "Accessibility Actions" or "actions available" for VoiceOver and TalkBack. I shoulda known about it for years-- it makes navigation by swiping potentially much quicker.

Would you be willing to share your thoughts and experiences with this feature?

Tip to any #blind users of #VoiceOver. I don't know if this is just common now, or a side effect of #OCLP, but when trying to boot into recovery mode my speakers didn't work. A set of headphones did, though.

Now I'm creating an install of MacOS 15.3 because I clearly don't learn from my mistakes.
