It's a busy week this week. Yesterday was a blood test for cholesterol level.

Today it's Land of Lead and Silver visit to Shildon Engine House to assess it's condition. So that will be looking at an old wreck by.... you get the picture.

Tomorrow it's footpath maintenance for N Pennines National Landscape on the Pennine Way and I could maybe walk there as its close but probably won't.

Thursday Shopping.

Friday to Darlington for pre op assessment of my tiny patch of skin cancer.

Blowing my own trumpet time. I feature in Nenthead Mines Conservation Society newsletter in a couple of articles. This one about one of the repairs to a dry stone wall in the river Nent.

There's another one with me underground doing basic labouring after the skilled engineering volunteers had carried out work to shore up a section of roof. I might post it later but I'm short of time as I'm off there again soon today.

Some heroes don’t wear capes 🇺🇦

🕯️ In memory of my dear Ukrainian friend, Oleg Salnyk from #Kherson.

Oleg's selflessness and bravery cost him his life, but his legacy of humanity and resilience will never be forgotten.

I remain committed to supporting the people of Ukraine, fighting disinformation, and shedding light on the truths of this war. I invite you to watch and share this message to honor Oleg and support #Ukraine.

The organisation my wife volunteers for has finally moved all its volunteer training online.

It's very clever, very cheap & extremely unfreindly.
The login initially assumes you are on the organisation's payroll and located within its premises and on their intranet - once I'd worked out how to get around that, it appears that it's impossible to stay logged in to do several courses at one sitting - you need to log in each time.

I'm not sure that the training itself has been run past any disability checks - Sacha has a degree of dyspraxia and she has really struggled with the training websites.
The manager is dismissive - the attitude comes across (meant or otherwise) as 'you're only a volunteer, so what?'

She's seriously thinking of giving up on the volunteering that she really loves and - I believe- does make a difference to a number of young lives. It's very niche - there's no alternative for her to move to.

A 10/10 review! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Volunteered at our local repair cafe today. I fixed an RC car and an amplifer, and helped diagnose an LED christmas tree.

Couldn't take pictures of the whole space, but here's my little workstation with my tools. There were 8 volunteers and about twice as many visitors, so it wasn't too stressful.

I definitely plan to volunteer again, once the organizer gets the next date picked out!

A huge thank you for your generosity at our March repair cafe - you donated £151.37.

We've spent it on:
Café items - £42.
Tools and sprays - £50.
Parking - £17.50.
A PAT course - £38.

We couldn't do this without you. Every penny donated makes a huge difference and enables us to keep supporting the community here in Barry - round of applause for all of you 👏!

Interested in gardening but have no access to land? Want to grow your own food but aren't sure where to start? Passionate about food security? Come out on April 13 for a volunteer meetup at ComeUnity Roots Garden and see what we're all about!

(and hopefully the snow will be gone by then so you can actually see the garden)
