I’m ashamed to admit I hadn’t thought about him in a long time.

And, as it always is, the reason to remember inevitably presents itself, one way or another.

On this particular photo he reminds me late poet, songwriter and friend Vassia Borodin, which makes me actually cry.

If you're a super left-leaning hippie like me living in a very non-hippie state and worried about standing in line with a bunch of right-leaning talkative voters when voting, do what I did at early voting today. When the homeless guy comes up to hit up people in line for money, have a nice and friendly chat with him. NO ONE spoke to me after that.

Just sent out a large batch of holiday aka Xmas/Yule cards to family and close friends. The trickiest part is those certain family members that are quite set in their religious ways and I am not exactly religiously aligned with them, and picking out a generally neutral enough card that doesn’t offend me or them.

Yes they know I’m different, and I could simply dismiss them from my life for being too Far Right or whatever, but I do still care about them and if they can tell I’ve put in an effort to graciously meet them more than halfway, then I’ve shown them us left-leaning old hippies are maybe not so bad.

It is worth it to have some compassion and keep these connections going if it means I can still reach them. I know I sound very son Luke talking about dad Vader but hey, I’m supposed to be open and caring.

I shared a fun video of goths in 1984 and a friend who’s young enough not to have been born then said “I feel like a lot of subcultures are influenced by queer people trying to find ways to be themselves in public”.

I agree - and it hit me quite hard to hear this from someone who grew up post-rave when arguably a lot of these scenes had dissolved away. I always thrill to see someone doing their thing in public. #goth #punk #hippie
