If anyone out there runs a #Plesk server, check to see if your have a ton of emails stuck in your mail queue. There was a problematic email security update that got applied within the past 12 hours that caused mail queues to stop processing both incoming and outgoing email.

Fortunately, it's an easy fix.

Der eine Euro monatlich für ein @mailbox_org "Lite" E-Mail Konto ist seit ca 10 Jahren eins der besten Abos, die ich tätige.

Der Service funktioniert nicht nur super zuverlässig, sondern Mailbox.org hat die absolute Inhouse-Erfahrung mit Mailservern - das sieht man immer wieder an Slides, die durch das Internet geistern oder Präsentationen auf den hiesigen FOSS Veranstaltungen. Was ich sagen will: Man fühlt sich gut aufgehoben.

Kürzlich hat Lastschrift bei mir nicht funktioniert, aber kein Problem: Man hat mich freundlich (nicht vorwurfsvoll!) kontaktiert, mir einen Monat Laufzeit geschenkt und gebeten, die Bankdaten zu fixen.

Right now I'm torn between self hosting my mails again and not.
The idea of having full control over my mails is nice - and I know that once everything is up, the maintenance is doable - however there is a second side to the mail server - the client.
How can one be sure of that?
Especially with all the AI nonsense - you have no idea where your mails go.
Thunderbird migh be a solution - but there is no iOS version of that right now - so what to do...

Every four minutes a mail server in Romania connects to my mail server. My mail server then goes to the trouble of doing several online DNS lookups and determines that this is a spammer, and then kills the connection. Four minutes later the Romanian server tries again.

Checking up on the IP address suggests that it would attempt to a brute force attack on username and passwords, if it ever got that far.

Haven't these people got better things to do? I shouldn't be surprised, having run my own home mail server for over twenty years, but even so, the persistent nature of this one is quite annoying. I might see if I can add tarpitting to my Mailcow installation.

Ich hab hier auf EINEM Mail-Server tausende Login-Versuche von "USERNAME@nonstopconsulting.net" und kurz vorher/nachher nur von "USERNAME", IPs aus der ganzen Welt, dabei sind die beiden "gleichen" Versuchen typischerweise von unterschiedlichen IPs.

Das ganze läuft jetzt schon mehrere Tage und auch wenn ich mehr oder minder amüsiert zusehe, wäre es doch ganz interessant ggf. etwas mehr dazu zu erfahren. Jemand Infos für mich?

Hello #MailServer maintainers! If you are using rbl.realtimeblacklist.com, you should be aware that as of around 4am US/Eastern this morning their domain has been parked and is returning bogus #DNSBL results. I suspect that the registration lapsed and a domain resale stalker snapped it up, though I can't say for certain. Perhaps it's a temporary blip that will be resolved, but you should stop using it in the meantime.

#PSA for those of you who maintain your own #MailServer and use #Spamhaus as a #DNSBL to block spam.
Your server needs to be using a caching nameserver running locally or using Spamhaus DQS, rather than making Spamhaus DNS queries through a shared nameserver.
This has supposedly been true since 2021 but I just found out about it today so perhaps you are also unaware.
