Since the terrible air crash at DC last week, I've been keenly using flightradar24 and learning a little about the things that go on, I enabled some notifications for Comms and general emergencies, and I keep getting notifications of them.

Are they common? More common that we think? What do these mean exactly?

Have I just made myself paranoid for no reason? Or are we not being told about something that happens far too often and is actually quite bad?

Just seen a Military style #Chinook fly over our house in Ramsgate, Kent (UK SouthEast), but it's not on #flightradar24 - What does that mean?

It’s been 5 years since I started feeding #flightradar24 with a #raspberrypi and, initially, a DVB-T USB dongle.

I quickly moved to the #flightaware Pro Stick Plus receiver and a much enhanced antenna, which gave me a significant range and performance improvement. Except…:

I seem to be burning through a receiver about every year.. They do run quite hot, seen here at 21C ambient, some components peak at 50C and that’s without the cover…

I’m considering building a small enclosure with a fan to keep it ventilated without the plastic cover, any suggestions would be appreciated

Today's #HomeAssistant project is creating a sensor with attributes I can query from the #Pixlet starlark code. I can't pull the full #FlightRadar24 integration data because it is in an array that includes unfiltered aircraft and I want to be able to filter them.

Creating a template sensor with attributes seems to be the best way. I have to do this directly in the configuration.yaml because the Value Template helper doesn't support attributes yet.

So, #Storm #Ciarán is fun... It's so windy here, we decided to take a look at some airports using #FlightRadar24 to see how planes are managing. We saw a flight from Istanbul to Eindhoven, which, after 2 attempts at landing was redirected to Brussels, where it only landed from the 3rd attempt (for a total of 5 attempts). And then we saw a bunch of other flights doing touch-and-goes all over Western Europe.
