Spinning Frigg Vintage Fairytale Pin: A beautiful vintage brass pin of a woman with her distaff and spinning wheel. Pin measures just over 1 3/4" (4.5cm) wide. 

Frigg is the Norse Goddess of spinning-- it is said that she spun the clouds and you can see her spinning wheel in the sky as the constellation known as Orion's Belt.

@vlrny thanks! The goddess drawings are close to my heart -I have a bunch of them, based on ancient artifacts (and interpretations) from the archaeology and archaeomythology work of Marija Gimbutas

Drawing based on an ancient pottery figure- a smallish slightly conical figure with a proportionately large slightly pointy head, wide neck and short body, arms are barely a suggestion and there is a slightly inset base rather than feet or legs. It is kind of as if she is wearing a robe, but maybe it is just her body; she has blob like breasts also. Eyes are slanted and featureless (more like holes), there is a nose with nostrils and an open mouth. The original figure this was based on was probably a vessel for pouring water or other liquids out the mouth hole. Because of that and also the rather geometric markings around the 'waist' (also a 'necklace) which had symbolic meaning, she has been interpreted as possibly a Water Goddess. She is painted in earthy brown tones with light highlights and charcoaly shadows. Acrylic tempera with various coloured pencils and pastel etc sticks have been used. The background is painted in muted reds to the left, blending to dull violet on the right, not fully reaching the bottom of the paper.

Yesterday was a wonderful day with deep connection, emotional and creative.

We made two collages together. Like our other collaborations we started out each choosing material, which we gave to each other to begin with. Then we worked 15 minutes, without seeing what the other was doing. We switched and continued, so we each had 2x15 minutes on each collage.

I expect we're going to see a lot of persecution, esp of women, of people who reject puritanism & RW christianity. It would not surprise me if men starting accusing other spiritual paths of being "witchcraft."

They intend to force their cult onto everyone, using police state violence.

Our art can speak up.

They stood witness to life passing into and from this world. They were herbalists, wise women, soothsayers, and mystics. It wasn’t witches that were persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and murdered. They were just women, and I believe the common thread woven through all of what they did, all of what we now call witchcraft was and is desire—the desire to help, to heal, to create something better than what we have. ...In witchcraft, thought-forms are energetic beings created by a witch to perform a desired task. For example, creating a force field for protection... Further, there is constant debate over whether curses are real, or only effective if the person cursed believes it’s real. Aside from witchcraft or magical thinking, there is a hypothesis that everything of our world exists only in our thoughts. Our existence & experiences are but a figment of our own imagining; we ourselves are pure thought, creating the world we wish to inhabit. ...it opens a door for me to wondering how much of what I believe to be true & irrefutable is only a result of the thoughts I form around it?

Two flat paper cut out masks, coloured with oil pastel and coloured pencils. On the left is a sun disk with curved rays and a bit of blue-gold sky between them (I didn't design it well and needed a bit more coverage than just the rays would give!) It's cut out a bit poorly- again because I was trying to keep some coverage.. The other is a sort of human bird hybrid- dark colours ranging from blue and green to violet and black, meant to suggest the irridescence of a raven. Feathers go around from the sides to top and top centre are 4 green birch leaves. The forehead has a red band and the face comes down to a beaky point. The details are meant to suggest Ragana Goddess of witches and wild places able to appear as birds and animals- I suggest a tie to ancient Bird Goddess- the red band from anicent figurines- and give a nod to her connection to birch trees.

Dec 6th - an update on an idea I had for re-using old candle-holders I got at a closing: Travel Altars.

And then of course I needed a little box to keep the charms and rocks in for actual traveling, lol.

I had to sew the rims back on most of the holders. I do like the wicker, though I don't feel it's safe to use as a candle, hence the altar idea. This blue one was the first set. I made.

A repurposed candle-holder with a wood wicker rim, and an accompanying small box with a latched front. The center of the altar is a decoupaged travel scene of domed buildings and a cobblestone street, with a similar cutout adorning the top of the storage box. The storage box center image is removable, if you prefer to see your icons and stones through the glass inset. A heart is painted on the four corners of the lid, with vines and buds on the bottom portion of the box. The color scheme is Royal Blue, with orange, white, and green highlights.

For Dec 2nd I wanted to show you one of the wood manifesting / altar shadow boxes. This particular one is for finding companions in your life - whether that is a BFF, Soul Sister, or the True Love of your life. It comes with a plaster hand cast "tarot" card to get your manifesting started.

The decoupaged image is adapted from a Persian book of poetry that was my father's.

To follow up on this post, a bit of graphic editing was involved in these. The biggest edit was the two women, since in ancient Persian art there's not really any such thing as lesbians. And it was hard to find examples of *younger* men, not creepy old men - and I couldn't find any with women in a lovers type of setting. So I had to take the closest one I could find & improvise... The original was a young-ish man (finally!) talking to a woman with a downcast face who looked like he had just told her that her puppy died. I re-imagined the piece as two women, and also updated the first woman's face so that she is now smiling while looking down, sort of the way you would if you just heard something really juicy and didn't want to laugh out loud in a public place.

My goodness, it's that time again.

For December 1st here's a 3D figurine that can be a stand alone icon or go with the Fortune manifesting / altar box.

The figurines are 4.5" hand cast of lime plaster & hand painted. No plastics or resins, just natural water based components with a nontoxic decoupage sealer.

This example is white & black, but any two colors could be used.

Fortune, also known as the Queen of Coins / Earth / Pentacles, shown on one side with a white background and the other in black. A gold tree of life blooms on the white background, while the black shows a blooming spiral universe in silver.

설문대할망 Grandma/Great Mother Seolmundae was a giant #goddess from the volcanic island of #Jeju, or Tamra as it was known of old. She created the world one day when she sat up from a nap and let rip with a huge fart, rattling the island and raising pillars of fire to the sky.

Grandma put out the fires by shoveling sea water and soil onto them, then carried soil in her skirt to build Mount Halla, the central peak of the island. The dirt fell through holes in her skirt to form smaller hills, the 오름 oreum. The force of her urine tore off a piece of land to create the island of 소섬 Soseom.

The folk of Tamra farmed on her soft, fertile flesh, while her strong streams of piss nurtured ocean life which diving women harvested. #MythologyMonday #mythology #folklore #korea
