Oakville Grocery

Just about everyone that has driven through the valley has driven past the Oakville Grocery store. Most have probably stopped in at one time. It sits on the east side of highway 128 about halfway between the city of Napa and the town of Calistoga.
The building is in my eyes an iconic image of Napa Valley. This is another of my favorite places to shoot.

Oakville Grocery On the side of Highway 29 in beautiful Napa Valley is the fabulous Oakville Grocery store. This landmark store dates back to 1874. The front of the store has a porch supported by wood pillars. In front of the porch are four wine barrels being used as planters have nice green plants growing in them. The store is painted with a very light brown/tan with green trim. The roof is a red tile roof. On the side of the store is a large Coca-Cola advertisement just below the Oakville Grocery sign. Above the store you can see a tall redwood tree that is on the other side of the store.

OakvilleGreen is guiding a family-friendly bike tour of Oakville’s green space on 2024-07-27, starting from Valleyridge Park at 1000h.

We'll be exploring local paths, stopping to learn about native & invasive species, practicing identification, and enjoying a healthy outdoor activity w/ community members.

The ride is beginner friendly, mostly level, with no steep incline, & lots of breaks. All ages welcome!

Am nächsten Morgen dann der nächste Versuch, mit dem Zug von #Oakville nach New York kommen. Am Bahnhof dann die Auskunft: der Zug fährt. 😀 Die Unfallstelle des Güterzuges war nach 3 Tagen geräumt. Am Bahnhof wurden die ca. 6 Einsteiger persönlich vom #VIA Bahnhofspersonal auf den Abfahrtsbahnsteig geführt. Die Anzeige gibt keinen Hinweis, dass der Zug nach New York durchfährt. Aber die Lok ist von #Amtrak, also wird das schon werden.

Aus Kostengründen heißt es wieder ein Hotel im Vorort nehmen - es sind meist Motels an der Autobahn. Wenn man einen Bahnhof um die Ecke hat, ist das noch erträglich, auch wenn der Gehweg nicht bis zum Hotel reicht.
Die Bahnhöfe liegen wie in den USA in einem Meer aus Parkplätzen. Das Haus im Hintergrund ist ein Parkhaus. Vorteil von #Oakville ist, dass hier auch Fernzüge halten, auch der internationale nach New York.
