The above linked article explains the current status of the #PureOS development. It starts with the foundation and infrastructure. It describes how packages are synchronized from #Debian, how some packages are improved (for #MobileLinux), and it describes newly identified issues.

The work on upgrading the operating system for the #Librem5 Linux phone is progressing well.

The work on this is funded by #Purism and people that have totally optional PureOS subscriptions.

The name of the official Purism #Linux distribution for the Librem5 is #PureOS.

The current version is #Byzantium, the next version will be #Crimson.

Taking an PureOS subscription helps funding.

There is huge progress lately, read the progress report for March 2025 here:

Purism · PureOS Crimson Development Report: March 2025 – PurismPurism makes premium phones, laptops, mini PCs and servers running free software on PureOS. Purism products respect people's privacy and freedom while protecting their security.

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

Did you ever browse through the extensive #documentation of #Purism?

@purism is a #socialpurpose #corporation that makes #freedom and #privacy respecting #hardware and #software, like #Linux #phones, #laptops, #tablets and (mini) #servers. But also the #PureOS #OperatingSystem and USB #SecurityTokens.

Basically the whole range of computing needs. Both for private and business purposes.

Read all about it at:

I wonder if there's any #GNU/Linux or #BSD distribution out there that's relatively modern, stable, and well-maintained, and also not taken over by political nonsense?

It doesn't have to be purely free software, though that would be a plus.

Maybe #OpenBSD? I've used that before on a laptop (until ~10 years ago I think) and it was honestly OK, until my Firefox was so outdated I couldn't watch WebM that people began using in place of GIFs... OpenBSD doesn't seem to have a CoC, which is good.

#FreeBSD has a CoC but it seems acceptable, maybe. At least it lists "sex" alongside "gender identity" as two separate characteristics so it's not entirely brainrotten. It's the most popular BSD if I'm not mistaken, so may be interesting.

#NetBSD also always seemed quite interesting. Maybe I'll try that out for a change. Doesn't seem to have a CoC.

Other than that, #PureOS sounds like a good sensible fully free GNU/Linux-libre distro based on Debian so I might go with that I suppose. Can't find any CoC.

#Dragora is very interesting. It's been developed by one guy for years??? Not sure if it's gonna be as modern and well-maintained as some of the other options though.

You can now get three kinds of #PureOS subscription from @purism!

Each of them:

- Helps maintaining releases and bug fixes
- Helps pushing code to other projects

Free and Open Source Software (#FOSS) developers also need an #income!

Consider subscribing if you want to advance #Linux #privacy friendly computing or if you are using #MobileLinux.

The #Linux on #Mobile stand will be at #FOSDEM once again this year!

We're looking forward to showing off devices running #SailfishOS, #postmarketOS, #Mobian, #PureOS, #UBports, #Droidian and #CalyxOS as well as devices from #MNT Research.

What a line up!

Last year we got a phenomenal response. We're hoping this year will be even bigger and better.
