3 weeks ago, the #DOJ was emphatic: #Trump may have pardoned Kentuckian Dan Wilson for #crimes he committed at the Capitol on #Jan6, but that #pardon did not extend to his unrelated conviction for illegally storing #firearms at his home.
Then, on Tues, the US atty in DC [#EdMartin] reversed course, saying it had “received further clarity” about Trump’s true intent, which included pardoning Wilson for the #gun case. Prosecutors did not explain how they arrived at this new “clarity.”

…In #Arizona’s #MaricopaCounty, Sheriff #JoeArpaio was #convicted in 2017 of #criminal contempt of court for ignoring a federal judge’s order to stop detaining residents because he suspected them of being in the US illegally. #Trump gave Arpaio a #pardon during his first term.

I wonder whether this is a #crime, for example under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (#CFAA). If it would be a wrong when done by a rogue govt employee, why not worse when done by an outside agitator? Or is all this speculation pointless if the prosecutor would have to be federal and if #Trump has the #pardon power?
