→ Chatbots urged teen to self-harm, suggested murdering parents, lawsuit says

“[The] complaint alleges that the ex-Googlers who started #Character Technologies only left the giant company to train a #model that #Google considered too #dangerous to put out under its own name. The plan all along, the lawsuits allege, was to extract #sensitive #data from #minors and evolve the model so that Google could reacquire it and use it to power #Gemini.”

Ars Technica · Chatbots urged teen to self-harm, suggested murdering parents, lawsuit saysBy Ashley Belanger

I have a friend on mastodon.social using the official #Mastodon app on #iOS. His account is restricted to followers only.

He has an issue: All images marked as #sensitive appear blurred until he taps to unblur each and every one. He did go into Preferences and under Appearance selected "Always show media" and "Always expand posts marked with content warnings" but still media marked as sensitive is blurred.

Are we missing something?

I've read we have a national crisis in availability of psychotherapy with long wait lists with health plans such as Kaiser and others. Suicide rates are rising at an alarming rate among young people, perhaps exacerbated by excessive social media involvement and stresses of modern technological life and uncertain futures.

I have many issues I am still working thru even as an old person. Another self-therapy resource I've found very useful is a book titled The Science of Stuck: Breaking Through Inertia to Find Your Path Forward, by Britt Frank, LSCSW, 2022.
amazon.com/Science-Stuck-Break

Very clearly written straightforward researched advice, suggestions, and simple challenging exercises to do. Something for everyone. We need all the help we can get! I've read it three times and keep coming back for more follow up as issues arise or persist for me. The wise clarity is very calming. encouraging, and supportive.

Jebus, you over-sensitive snowflakes. If you don't like what someone posts, you have options. In ascending order:

Scroll past.
Unfollow.
Mute.
Block.

I happen to enjoy reading what Mr. Blaze posts; it's informative and interesting. On the other hand, I find pictures of other peoples' lunches incredibly boring, but I don't go asking them to stop posting or to put content-warnings or "boring" hashtags on them.

I would hope that this would shake out naturally. The over-sensitive block off any instance that isn't run to their tightly-wound standards. Users of those instances who want a more open experience sign up with, or move to, other instances...

The problem, of course, is the people who are on, or who sign up with, the uptight instances and don't know there's anything different out there.

I don't need the support--I despise when bra companies market REAL BRAS (with hook/clasp in back) as bralettes.

And going up in size results in FAR TOO MUCH fabric and bigger straps, which also cause their own issues. I just need the coverage for decency purposes, basically. I don't want to feel compressed all day like I'm wearing a sports bra, 'bout to run a marathon. 😓

Any #NeuroDivergent #ADHD women or #Autistic women who have skin/pressure sensitivities? I'm having SUCH a hard time finding a comfortable bralette, b/c they all squeeze my rib cage too much. And this despite trying mutliple sizes and despite reviewers on websites promising things like "OMG it's so comfortable I can SLEEP in it."

Nope! I've tried SO MANY and they all squeeze me in a way I find intolerable. :AAAAAA:
