Bergen is a city on the West coast fjords of Norway, surrounded by mountains. And they just built the best bicycle tunnel in the world."

"All of this raises a question that was unfathomable until recently: Is the nation’s capital, so long blessed by being the government’s company town, at risk of a fate resembling that of so many other company towns through the years? And if it is, why aren’t people beyond metro Washington more concerned about it? When Detroit was in free fall, Obama intervened to bail out the auto industry, deciding a great American city needed help. But now, the administration in power is itself delivering the fateful blow to a major city.

It is hard not to detect in this turnabout some resentment on the part of Trump allies and supporters from regions that have not been faring well in recent times. By 2012, when the country was finally emerging from the recession, seven of the 10 wealthiest counties were in metro Washington; the area’s number of high-net-worth households, with investable assets of more than $1 million, had risen by 30% since 2008. While Midwestern communities such as Vice President JD Vance’s hometown, Middletown, Ohio, were being crushed by the opioid epidemic, the Aston Martin dealership in Tysons Corner, Virginia, was selling hundreds of the bespoke James Bond car for about $280,000, and home prices in the District were approaching a 400% increase from the early 1990s."

"Almost 1 in 5 (17%) of the #cities studied emerge as experiencing ‘#ClimateWhiplash’ – the intensification of both droughts and floods – and 20% of cities have seen a major flip from one extreme to the other.

The report shows how cities in Southern Asia are becoming overwhelmingly flood-prone and European cities are exhibiting significant drying trends, all of which can impact people’s clean #water access and water security."

🔴 **Parallel scaling of elite wealth in ancient Roman and modern cities with implications for understanding urban inequality**

_"These patterns suggest the presence of an ancient, enduring mechanism underlying urban inequality. Supported by an agent-based network simulation and informed by the settlement scaling theory, we propose that the observed patterns arise from common preferential attachment in social networks—a simple, yet powerful, driver of unequal access to interaction potential."_

I had some time to spend in a small town. People watched me as if I were "not normal". Well, I was so fascinated about the biodiversity of lichens and mosses and what they told me about the weather and air quality!
(Is it normal, to walk through a city without regarding mosses and lichens???)

It's a trick !!
The carlobby trying to put cycling opposit public transport. So while 'we' quarral amongst eachother about the limited funds, nobody will notice the unlimited funds allocated to the car infrastructure. Which is much more expensive and benefits fewer people.
Guys... it's not a contest. Present the public with enough safe ALTERNATIVES and there will be less cars polluting the streets.

"Are Urbanists Too Obsessed With Bikes? (Why Not Focus on Transit?)" [8:53 min]
by Oh The Urbanity!

Quote by OTU:
"Feb 22, 2025
One of the most common arguments against building dedicated bike infrastructure is that we should instead be focusing on improving public transit. This argument sometimes comes from people opportunistically using transit as a cudgel but there’s also a kind of old-school city dweller that fundamentally understands transit in a way that they don’t for this new-fangled bike stuff. It’s worth remembering: in many cities, separated bike lanes are a relatively new idea. Just over a decade ago, Toronto was “considering” building some."

At The Cloisters, residents are sidestepping augmented reality (AR) dependency by relying on their natural memory. They remember names, scents and even how to care for the sick – skills that challenge the growing reliance on digital aids. This is one of many possible futures in the report "The Augmented City," which explores how AR could affect urban life.
