While biking the coastal trail Sunday eve, we met Salinas residents David, a teacher, and his daughter, Priscilla, home on spring break from her CalPoly classes.

After a lifetime of biking & 15 years volunteering well over 22K unpaid hours as a bike advocate, in 2024 we got our 1st pricey bike. We’d admired those of others (including Velo Monterey rider with a $13K lightweight ebike—definitely not in our budget!).

Although a fraction of that cost—yet still far costlier than we’d ever had—a Tern NBD P8i became a necessity after covid impacted our riding ability. (In fact, for most of a yr we couldn’t really ride because we didn’t have a suitable post-covid bike.) A physical therapist who rides recommended Tern. We saw the Tern NBD—low to ground, wide step-thru, class 1 (no throttle) —at Sea Otter Classic.

But our budget couldn’t swing it. Then, bless them, getting a Tern became possible thanks to our son and daughter's support for our bike advocacy!

We found the best #Tern dealer in our local (#MontereyBay) region to be Current eBikes, #SantaCruz. Their service is excellent! currentebikes.com/local-ebikes

Biked to Monterey today, and first stop was Window on the Bay Park. Many community members had gathered, including Monterey County Supervisor Wendy Root Askew and Supervisor-Elect Kate Daniels. We’ll post more photos from our ride today in Autumn Bike Buzz on bikemonterey.org and/or here. For now, here are three favorites from today's community gathering at Window on the Bay.
